Ralf Schumacher has expressed his belief that Max Verstappen has the potential to surpass Lewis Hamilton’s achievements in Formula 1, highlighting Verstappen’s extraordinary talent on the track. Despite Red Bull’s performance dip in the 2024 season, Verstappen has maintained his lead in the drivers’ championship, outpacing competitors like Lando Norris in a fierce battle for the top spot.
According to Schumacher, Verstappen’s ability to consistently deliver strong results, even when not driving the fastest car, is reminiscent of his brother Michael Schumacher’s legendary performances during his career. Ralf noted that both Michael and Verstappen share the rare ability to make a significant impact with their sheer driving talent, elevating their performances regardless of the car’s competitiveness.
“Max Verstappen makes the difference with his talent, even though he doesn’t have the fastest car. Just like my brother Michael used to make the difference in the past,” Schumacher stated.
He went on to draw comparisons between Hamilton and Verstappen, pointing out that while both drivers are often perceived as near-invincible on the track, Verstappen’s raw talent gives him the edge to potentially go further than Hamilton. Schumacher emphasized that although the sport has seen legends like Hamilton, Verstappen’s influence on his races appears even greater.
“We thought Lewis Hamilton could walk on water. We thought Max Verstappen could walk on water. But that’s not how things work in F1. Although in my opinion, Max could actually go further than Lewis Hamilton in terms of talent. That’s true, Max makes an even bigger difference,” Schumacher added.
Reflecting on his brother Michael’s success, Schumacher acknowledged that while talent was a key factor in his seven world championships, luck and timing also played a role in his dominance, suggesting that being in the right place at the right time was crucial.
As Max Verstappen continues his impressive career, setting records and adding to his win tally, the comparisons between him and F1 greats like Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are inevitable. With Verstappen still at the peak of his career, many, including Ralf Schumacher, believe the Dutchman could further cement his legacy as one of the greatest talents in the history of the sport.
