Red Bull’s RB20 has not proven to be an exceptionally deadly weapon this year. The Red Bull Formula 1 team has had a very turbulent first half of the 2024 season. Although the team is currently leading in both world championships, the margin between them and rival teams/drivers is not large enough to feel comfortable. Various key figures within the team have acknowledged this recently, with Red Bull’s Chief Engineer being the latest to join the list. Despite the challenges, he believes the team has all the necessary resources to defend their F1 titles. McLaren is currently trailing Red Bull by 42 points in the Constructors standings, and the gap in the driver’s battle is also not significant.
The Chief Engineer has further emphasized the need for improvement behind the scenes at Red Bull, as well as the importance of Verstappen and his teammate stepping up their performance. Both drivers had a difficult first half of the season. While the Chief Engineer has called for his team to regroup for the second half, McLaren has been vocal in issuing verbal warnings. The CEO of McLaren recently admitted that his team will aggressively pursue Red Bull in both championships. With only 10 races remaining on the F1 calendar, the competition is heating up.
Red Bull has been dominant in the world of motor racing since 2022, thanks to the ground-effect era. However, the progress made by rival teams this season may pose a significant challenge for Verstappen and his team in the second half. Considering these factors, fans around the world will be eagerly watching the remaining races of the 2024 F1 season.
