Golf is about to get a futuristic upgrade, and some of the sport’s biggest names are already buzzing about the new TGL (Tech Golf League). Co-founded by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, this tech-infused competition is set to debut in January after a one-year delay. With six teams and 24 top PGA Tour stars, the TGL is gearing up to revolutionize how fans experience the game.
Justin Thomas, part of the Atlanta Drive GC team, admitted he’s not entirely sure what to expect but is optimistic about the format. “It’s obviously not the grind of a normal tournament week, but we’re all very competitive,” Thomas explained. “I think it’ll be exciting for fans to watch, bringing new light to a golf competition.”
Unlike traditional golf, TGL will take place in a 3,800-square-foot arena in Florida, complete with high-tech simulators and virtual greens. Xander Schauffele, whose New York Golf Club will kick off the season on January 7, is eager to see how the mix of technology and golf will play out. “It’s very exciting… our first mesh of golf and technology,” Schauffele said.
With a unique blend of high-octane competition and entertainment, TGL is expected to attract a younger, tech-savvy audience while providing players an opportunity to compete in a different, less grueling environment. As anticipation builds, both players and fans are counting down to what promises to be a groundbreaking moment in the sport.
