Rick Hendrick is ecstatic after his victory at Martinsville. The NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville was not the most exciting for fans due to the lack of passing and tire wear. However, Hendrick Motorsports fans had reason to celebrate as the team secured a 1-2-3 podium finish, with Hendrick taking the win.
Unfortunately, HMS team owner Rick Hendrick was unable to attend the race as he was undergoing medical treatment on his leg. Instead, he watched the race from home and anxiously followed every lap. When William Byron and the rest of the team secured podium finishes, Hendrick was overjoyed, feeling like it was a miracle.
This Sunday marked the 40th anniversary of HMS’s first Cup victory, and they celebrated the occasion with special red paint schemes. While they were hoping for a win, the podium sweep exceeded their expectations. It was the ultimate gift for Hendrick, the most successful team owner in NASCAR.
Hendrick admitted to being shocked after the race, unable to believe what he had witnessed. He was especially pleased that all of his cars were among the top eight at some point during the race.
This victory was the fourth of the 2024 season for HMS, with three wins by Byron and one by Larson. Hendrick now hopes to see wins from Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott, who have not won a race since the end of the 2022 season. Having all four HMS drivers secure playoff spots gives the team a much-needed chance to compete for the championship in the Next-Gen era.
