The performance of Sergio Pérez this year has significantly improved compared to the previous season. He has already secured three second places, a great improvement from last year, when his teammate scored twice as many points as him. Pérez has now admitted the mistake he made compared to his teammate, the world champion.
At the beginning of the last season, Sergio Pérez had high hopes of competing with Max Verstappen for the world title. However, he faced difficulties throughout the races and had several forgettable performances. This raised questions about Pérez’s driving style and why he couldn’t keep up with his teammate’s performance.
Pérez has now identified his mistake and is working to correct it. He acknowledged that his biggest mistake was experimenting too much with the car setup. This hindered his progress and prevented him from feeling comfortable in the cockpit of the challenging 2023 car. However, he has now made changes and limited modifications to the most crucial technical aspects of the RB20.
Although Pérez has admitted that he has not extensively experimented with the car setup this year, he has been steadily improving. He has accumulated 64 points so far, compared to Verstappen’s 77. Pérez expressed that he feels much more comfortable with this year’s machine.
He explained that, by correcting his mistake, he has also become more comfortable with the RB20 and has adapted to its complexities. This new confidence in the car was evident during the qualifying session for the Japanese GP.
Looking ahead, the next Chinese GP will take place at the Shanghai International Racing Circuit. Pérez will be eager to test his chances on the challenging track and challenge Verstappen for victory in the Grand Prix.
