Skoda has announced the launch of its new SUV, the Kylaq, aimed at the growing Indian market, targeting the competitive subcompact segment, and arriving with a low price.
The Kylaq measures 3.99 meters in length, 1.78 m in width, a height of 1.61 m, and a ground clearance of 189 mm, dimensions that lead Skoda to claim that the model meets the needs of urban use while being capable of handling the most enjoyable adventures off the road.
Skoda’s new SUV features a modern design, in the Modern Solid style, which we recognize from the brand’s more recent models from Mladá Boleslav, with an added simplicity due to its economical offering.
Thus, at the front, the split LED headlights flank the black grille, while at the rear, the taillights are positioned alongside a black strip on the tailgate.
Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the same as the Skoda Fabia, the Kylaq is equipped with a 1.0 TSI three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that delivers a power of 115 hp and a maximum torque of 178 Nm. It can be combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission, allowing for an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 188 km/h.
Inside, there is a highlight on an 8” digital instrument panel, as well as an infotainment system with a 10.1” screen. The model also offers wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with wireless smartphone charging.
It is also worth noting the trunk of this small Kylaq, which offers 446 liters of storage capacity, expandable to 1265 liters with the rear seats folded down.
“India is essential for our internationalization plans, being the third largest automobile market in the world, and SUVs represent 50% of new vehicle sales. We want the Kylaq to welcome new customers looking to enter this popular and rapidly growing segment. The Kylaq also marks the debut of our Modern Solid design language in India, with new visual details,” said Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto.
