Sixth place for Carlos Sainz in the sprint race of the United States Grand Prix of Formula 1. The Spanish driver even managed to be in fourth place, but he was a “victim” of the degradation of the soft tires he chose and dropped to sixth place in the end.
According to the Madrid-born driver representing Ferrari, the tire choice was a risk taken, but it ended up making the task more difficult in a later stage of the race: ‘Those 19 laps were complicated. Choosing the soft [tire] was a risk we decided to take, although we knew we would have difficulties with the pace and degradation in the end. I had a good start and some good overtakes took us to fourth place in the early laps, but from there came the hard part, all about tire management and defense. Keeping Lando [Norris] and Sergio [Pérez] behind was very difficult and the fight with George [Russell] was not easy at all, but we managed to finish and score some points’.
Next is the race this afternoon, in which Sainz naturally intends to do his best: ‘Now we focus on Sunday’s race, we have much more information to analyze and we will try to maximize Sunday’.
