Stefon Diggs Readies for Potential Departure from Buffalo Bills
In a recent interview at the Pro Bowl Games, wide receiver Stefon Diggs addressed speculation about his future with the Buffalo Bills. Diggs remained noncommittal when questioned about his plans, stating, “I take it day by day. There are a lot of changes happening, and I can’t predict what will happen. But I have a great offseason ahead of me to work hard and build upon our current foundation.”
When asked if he was prepared to move forward with the Bills, Diggs replied, “I’m ready to go, regardless of the outcome.”
Diggs, a former All-Pro player, still has four years remaining on his contract, with each season earning him nearly $20 million. However, his performance in the latter half of the 2023 season has raised doubts about his future with the team. Many speculate that the Bills may choose to cut their losses.
During the first nine games of the season, Diggs had an impressive 70 catches for 834 yards and seven touchdowns, achieving over 100 yards in five separate games. However, in the final eight games, his performance declined significantly. He failed to reach the 100-yard mark in any game and only managed 37 catches for 349 yards and one touchdown.
Furthermore, Diggs faced criticism for a crucial drop in the fourth quarter of the Bills’ Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Reflecting on the play, Diggs admitted, “That’s one of the plays I want back. If I touch it, I drop it. I hold myself accountable for any missed opportunities. This season presented challenges, and I had to adapt as a teammate and continue to grow.”
The Bills currently face financial challenges, with an estimated $50 million over the cap in 2024. Diggs’ contract will account for $28 million of that amount. Combined with concerns about his declining productivity and potential locker room issues with quarterback Josh Allen, the future in Buffalo appears uncertain for Diggs.
When asked about the financial implications, Diggs responded, “I can’t control any of that. I focus on my offseason and remain open to whatever the future holds. I don’t have any surprises to share at this time.”
