Tesla is announcing the introduction of several safety improvements in the current generation of the Model 3, which includes the adoption of the “Active Hood” with the main objective of improving protection in the event of a collision with pedestrians or cyclists. The new feature automatically raises the hood, significantly reducing the risk of serious injuries. Additionally, as an immediate response, a notification will appear on the dashboard screen and a collision signal will notify the driver. After activating the Active Hood function, Tesla strongly recommends that the vehicle be inspected at a brand service center.
The mechanism, already used by other brands, uses sensors located in the front of the vehicle to detect impacts. With the Model 3 traveling at speeds between 30 and 52 km/h, after detecting an impact, the rear section of the structure raises by about 80 mm, creating more space between the hood and the components below it. This device was already included in the safety equipment list of the Model X and Model S, but only in some markets.
