The Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP) revealed this Monday that the national automotive market registered a growth of 4.4% between January and August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, with 168,942 new vehicles recorded.
During the month of August 2024, 14,338 motor vehicles were registered in Portugal, which is a decrease of 8.7% compared to the same month in 2023.
By categories, the passenger car market, the segment with the largest share, saw 11,822 new cars registered, representing a decrease of 9.4% compared to the same month in 2023.
From January to August, registrations of light passenger vehicles totaled 142,789 units, which translates to a positive variation of 2.5% compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, in the light goods vehicle market, there was a positive evolution in the eighth month of 2024, with an increase of 9.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, with 2,099 units sold.
In cumulative terms, the market reached 21,248 units, representing a 19.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the heavy vehicle market, which includes both passenger and goods types, recorded a decline of 43.6% in August 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, with 417 vehicles of this category sold.
From January to August, registrations in this category totaled 4,905 units, which represented a market increase of 3.5% compared to the same period in 2023.
