After setting records at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany and Laguna Seca in California, USA, the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package has also achieved a new record at the Shanghai International Circuit in China.
With a time of 2:11.28 minutes, Lars Kern, Porsche’s development driver, secured the title of the fastest production vehicle on the Chinese circuit, which is part of the Formula 1 calendar. This is also the first record to be officially recognized by the Shanghai International Circuit.
“Now I am even more impressed with the balance and performance of the Taycan. At the end of the main straight, it was necessary to brake hard when entering the so-called corkscrew turn”, said Lars Kern, Porsche’s development driver.
“The rest of the circuit is extremely fast. With the Taycan Turbo GT, I saw exactly 300 km/h on the speedometer at the fastest point. The powertrain of the Taycan Turbo GT, designed for maximum traction and performance, once again proved its worth on the track”, concluded Lars Kern.
For security reasons, the unit that set the record on the Chinese circuit also includes a safety cell and competition bucket seats. This conversion measure increases the total weight and cannot be fully offset by the removal of parts from the interior equipment. The optional Pirelli Trofeo RS tires were also used in this lap record.
Remember that with the addition of the Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package in the spring of 2024, Porsche expanded its range of 100% electric sports sedans. In these vehicles, a more powerful inverter that uses silicon carbide as a semiconductor material is used on the rear axle. Both variants can achieve small power ‘boosts’, allowing them to exceed 1100 hp.
Additionally, Porsche has reduced the weight of the Taycan Turbo GT by up to 75 kg compared to the Taycan Turbo, utilizing various carbon elements and omitting the rear seats for an even better power-to-weight ratio.
The Porsche Active Ride suspension with GT-specific tuning is standard in both models. In dynamic driving situations, the suspension ensures better road connection thanks to a balanced load distribution across the wheels.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package are available in Portugal starting at a price of €252,795.
