A multitude of the finest female amateurs in the world have gathered at Southern Hills Country Club to compete in the 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur tournament. While the top three players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking are absent, players ranked fourth through sixth and eighth through tenth are in attendance, along with seven additional players in the top 25. All of them are taking on the renowned course in Tulsa, which served as the host for the 2022 PGA Championship.
Megan Schofill, a recent graduate of Auburn University, currently holds the title of defending U.S. Women’s Amateur champion after defeating Latanna Stone 4 and 3 last year at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. She has returned to defend her championship.
Apart from Schofill, here are ten players who should be closely watched at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Campos holds the highest ranking among the participants, occupying the fourth spot in the WAGR. She previously competed in the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links in 2023 and was also a member of the 2024 Palmer Cup team.
Craig emerged victorious in the North & South Women’s Amateur that took place at Pinehurst No. 2 this summer. Additionally, she secured a third-place finish in the inaugural Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series.
Clemente is an up-and-coming talent in the amateur golf scene and has already achieved success in USGA events. At the age of 16, she made the cut at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and was part of the final pairing, ultimately finishing in a tie for fifth place.
Davis claimed victory in the 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the 2023 Girls’ Junior Invitational at Sage Valley. She reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur last year and represented the United States in various international competitions, including the Junior Solheim Cup in Spain, Junior Ryder Cup in Italy, Women’s World Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi, and Pan American Games in Chile.
Koo has been one of the standout junior players in golf throughout the summer. The incoming freshman at USC came in second place at the U.S. Girls’ Junior in California last month.
Kuehn, the reigning NCAA champion from Wake Forest, thrives in high-stakes competitions. She has a penchant for performing on the grandest stages, and as one of her final events as an amateur, she is expected to deliver nothing less.
Malixi, a 17-year-old, is participating in her second USGA championship this summer, following her triumph in the 2024 U.S. Girls’ Junior at El Caballero Country Club, where she defeated Asterisk Talley in the final.
Romero emerged victorious in the 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior that took place in Colorado Springs, Colorado, last summer. She was also among the twelve players who received invitations to join the U.S. Curtis Cup squad in December.
Sambach has successfully made the cut in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur for the past two years. Additionally, she was part of the Curtis Cup practice squad and reached the match play stage of the U.S. Women’s Amateur last summer.
Shoemaker advanced to the Round of 16 in the U.S. Women’s Amateur last year, as well as the Round of 64 in both the Women’s Amateur Championship in England and the U.S. Girls’ Junior. She also finished as the runner-up in the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
