Two of Donald Trump’s top advisors reignited speculation on Monday about Vice President Kamala Harris’s standing as the Democratic presidential nominee, even hinting that the Democrats could replace her with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Trump Jr. set off the discussion by blaming Harris, whom he dubbed the “Border Czar,” for the immigration policies he claims led to the tragic murder of Georgia woman Laken Riley by an undocumented immigrant.
Senior Trump advisor Jason Miller then chimed in, suggesting the move was a “3D chess” strategy to potentially replace Harris with “Crooked Hillary.” Stephen Miller added more fuel to the fire, tweeting about “DC gossip” that Democrats may be looking to replace Harris due to a “plagiarism scandal” surrounding her 2009 book, Smart on Crime, though this allegation comes from conservative activist Chris Rufo and not from within the Democratic Party itself.
The Trump camp’s comments mark the latest attempt to stir up uncertainty around the Democratic ticket. Trump himself recently added to the rumors, asserting that Harris’s supposed “Marxist” leanings are prompting a drop in support, though current polls continue to show a tight race between Harris and Trump.
