Donald Trump faced a third apparent assassination scare at his Coachella rally, where Las Vegas resident Vem Miller was arrested with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple fake IDs. Miller, 49, tried entering the rally, claiming to be a journalist, when Riverside County Sheriff deputies grew suspicious of his unregistered SUV with “homemade” plates. Inside, they found guns, multiple passports, and driver’s licenses under different names.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who labeled Miller a “lunatic,” claimed his team “likely prevented” an assassination attempt. Bianco suspects Miller may be associated with the “Sovereign Citizens,” a group that rejects legal authority. However, both the Secret Service and FBI are reportedly skeptical that Miller intended to harm Trump, and they are not investigating it as an assassination attempt.
After posting bail, Miller defended himself, dismissing the accusations as “complete b******t” and claiming, “I’m an artist…the last person that would cause any violence.” Miller’s friend and colleague, right-wing documentarian Mindy Robinson, argued Miller was being unfairly targeted, stating he “would never intend to kill Trump” and was a vocal supporter working on an anti-“Deep State” documentary.
This scare adds to the escalating security concerns around Trump’s rallies, where speakers now stand behind bulletproof glass following two previous alleged attempts on his life earlier this year.
