Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, has called on the Biden administration to set a firm red line regarding the possible deployment of North Korean troops to fight against Ukraine. In a letter to President Joe Biden, Turner expressed grave concerns following reports from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and South Korean intelligence that around 10,000 North Korean soldiers are allegedly preparing to join the war on Russia’s side.
Turner emphasized that if these movements are confirmed, it would represent a dangerous escalation of the conflict, requiring immediate and decisive responses from the U.S. and NATO. He urged the administration to clarify its stance on the involvement of North Korean forces and warned that their entry into Ukraine should be a clear red line for Western allies. Turner also requested an urgent classified briefing to the House Intelligence Committee regarding U.S. intelligence assessments of the situation.
The involvement of North Korean troops in the Russia-Ukraine war would heighten tensions and could potentially broaden the scope of the conflict, making NATO’s response even more critical
