Ford teams in the 2024 NASCAR Cup season had a tough time, failing to win in 28 races before the Kansas event. They came extremely close to a victory on Sunday, but luck was not on their side as they lost the Cup race to Hendrick Motorsports by a mere 0.001 seconds. This extends the winless streak to 30 races.
During the final stages of the race, Chris Buescher found himself in a fierce battle with Kyle Larson. Despite several yellow flags and accidents, the duo managed to stay in contention for the win. After multiple failed attempts to pass the Ford number 17, the Chevy number 5 made an aggressive move by bumping into him, killing his momentum and ultimately securing the victory.
Adding to the disappointment, initially it was believed that Buescher had won the race, leading to celebrations by the team. However, NASCAR later announced that Larson was the winner after reviewing the race. In a post-race interview, Buescher expressed his disbelief and disappointment with the loss.
Despite the disappointment, there are some positives for Chris Buescher and his RFK team. They finally found the competitive edge they had been looking for a long time and were able to compete for the win with a solid strategy. Buescher also acknowledged that giving too much room to Larson at the end may have contributed to his defeat.
RFK Racing seems to have found the right balance with their new Ford, which they have been working on for some time. They will be hoping that the second place finish gives them confidence to compete for more wins in the future. If they can maintain this form, it won’t be long before Chris Buescher returns to victory lane.
