The 2024 edition of CES was the chosen stage for VW to reveal the general lines of the revised and updated version of the Golf.
The Golf has been VW’s stronghold for 50 years and, precisely due to the success of the model, caution is recommended when approaching each successor. The new VW Golf was officially revealed at an event in Wolfsburg, the German manufacturer’s headquarters, with the usual objectives: to strengthen its position among the best-selling and iconic cars in history and to establish itself as the reference in its segment.
In this eighth generation, VW opted for evolution instead of revolution, especially in the exterior design, with a redesigned front section and little more. Thus, with only modernized lines, the sedan now measures 4.284 meters in length, 1.789 meters in width, and 1.456 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.636 meters. Compared to the Mk7, the successor is slightly longer and shorter, with a slightly larger wheelbase. The body is more aerodynamic, with a frontal surface of 2.21 m2 and a drag coefficient of 0.275 Cd. All pointing towards increased efficiency, also a priority in its revised and updated version, which will be officially launched at the end of this month.
In the countdown to the presentation of the new Golf (the ninth generation will be 100% electric and is only scheduled for 2028), VW chose the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to reveal for the first time the general lines of the revised and updated version of the model, still under heavy camouflage.
Among the many novelties, which include the incorporation of ChatGPT in onboard technology, the German brand announces progress in interior ergonomics, with the return of physical buttons for the steering wheel, combined with a larger touchscreen infotainment display and mechanical improvements.
No technical information has been revealed in this regard, but everything indicates that the update will not bring profound changes, for example, in terms of engines, including for the GTI version that appears in the promotional images now released during the Las Vegas show.
