The demand for electric vehicles in China seems to be increasing, which led the CEO of Xiaomi to announce that the company has delivered over 100,000 units of its electric model SU7, thus reaching its goal set for the end of 2024 ahead of schedule.
The data revealed by Lei Jun on the Chinese social network Weibo also establishes a new sales estimate for the end of the year, which is now 130,000 vehicles.
It is worth noting that the SU7 is the model that marked Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive sector and that recorded over 50,000 reservations within the first 27 minutes of opening orders, which forced the company to create a seven-month waiting list and rethink its production strategy to try to produce more models than initially planned in order to keep up with the high demand.
The vehicle from Xiaomi, a Chinese multinational known until now for its smartphones, is based on Xiaomi’s Modena platform, which is designed to support electrical architectures of 400 volts and 800 volts, as well as transmission systems with one or two motors.
Equipped with electric motors developed in-house by Xiaomi, the SU7 is available only in the Chinese market, with two versions: the entry-level version features a single electric motor installed on the rear axle, producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, powered by a 73.6 kWh battery. This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h, with a range of 628 km to 668 km in the CLTC cycle.
The more powerful version is the SU7 Max, which uses two electric motors, one on each axle, providing all-wheel drive, with a total power output of 645 hp and 838 Nm of torque. It utilizes a 101 kWh battery supplied by CATL, allowing for a range of up to 800 km, as well as accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 265 km/h.
Recently, the Chinese brand announced the opening of orders for the new SU7 Ultra, a track-focused version based on the SU7, featuring three electric motors, two HyperEngine V8 motors, and one V6 motor, providing a combined power output of 1547 hp. Everything indicates that the production version will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h.
